She’s feline fine! Former stray cat Flossie is crowned the world’s oldest moggie at the age of 26

  • As a kitten, Flossie was stray near a Merseyside hospital when worker took her in
  • After the owners passed away, Cats Protection handed her to Vicki Green, 27
  • ‘Flabbergasted’ experts discovered vet records showing she was born in 1995

They say cats have nine lives, but this record-breaking puss may not need them.

Flossie, from Orpington, south east London, has been crowned the world’s oldest cat – weeks before turning 27.

The tortoiseshell cat scooped the title when ‘flabbergasted’ experts discovered vet records showing she was born in 1995.

Craig Glenday, editor in chief at Guinness World Records, said: ‘We were so excited to hear about the lovely Flossie – it’s not every day you come across a cat who has been around since the mid-nineties. This is the human equivalent of over 120 years.

‘We’re happy to see Flossie settled and enjoying all the home comforts she deserves in her later life.’

As a kitten, Flossie was a stray near a Merseyside hospital when a worker took her in, keeping her in the family for 24 years.

After the owners passed away, Cats Protection handed her to Vicki Green, 27, who said: ‘I knew from the start that Flossie was a special cat, but I didn’t imagine I’d be sharing my home with a Guinness World Records holder.

‘She’s deaf and has failing eyesight but none of that seems to bother her. She’s completely with it, loves affection and has a very good appetite.

‘She never turns her nose up at a good meal, except when she’s snuggled on her favourite yellow blanket.’
