Ed Woodward lined up for unlikely Man Utd return to work with club’s new owners
Former chief Ed Woodward has sensationally been lined up as a consultant to prospective buyers interested in Manchester United.
The ex-Vice Chairman, 51, stepped down from the United board in February 2022, following substantial backlash for his part in forming the disgraced European Super League, but would be available to work as a consultant now as he is no longer employed at Old Trafford.
Originally appointed in a financial planning role, Woodward was responsible for advising the Glazer family during their full takeover of the club in 2005 and could now be employed to help transfer the club away from the American owners.

The Glazer family announced on Tuesday evening they were open to exploring the sale of the club with Tech giants Apple already interested in taking the reins. As revealed exclusively by Daily Star Sport, the Glazers had been hoping to collect a staggering £8.25billion, though that figure has now been lowered to a more realistic £5.8bn.
Woodward would no doubt make the ideal candidate to liaise with prospective owners. Also installed in charge of commercial and media operations during his time at the club, he worked behind the scenes for 17 years before resigning in April 2021.

Named executive Vice Chairman in 2012, Woodward was promoted to the top operational role at Old Trafford upon the retirement of CEO David Gill and was responsible for securing the world-record transfer of Paul Pogba, who joined in a £89million deal from Juventus in 2016.
However, it certainly wasn’t all plain sailing for Woodward at Man Utd. He received criticism from Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho for failing to acquire their top transfer targets with fans constantly enraged at a lack of activity.
Though the breaking point was the formation of the European Super League, of which Woodward was understood to be a strong advocate, and his resignation was accepted in April 2021.
