World Cup pitch invader runs onto grass with rainbow flag at Portugal vs Uruguay

A World Cup pitch invader ran onto the playing surface brandishing a rainbow flag to seemingly protest Qatar’s hosting of the tournament as well as situations in both Ukraine and Iran.

The second-half was briefly halted due to the disrupting fan who swung the flag around his head with players including Cristiano Ronaldo looking on baffled.

Much was said about the hosting of the tournament in Qatar due to their anti-LGBTQ+ laws, with organisers relaxing those regulations over the course of the tournament.

The fan, who wore a blue T-shirt, was swiftly taken away by match stewards with many taking to social media to praise his actions which came with the scores level.

As well as his rainbow flag, a message on the T-shirt of the match-goer read: “Respect for Iranian Women.” Following protests over the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody.

In addition, the front of his shirt, which also had a rather fitting Super-Man logo, were the words ‘Save Ukraine’ and their invasion by neighbours Russia.
