It has been dubbed Britain’s most festive street, but the spirit appears to have deserted one of the inhabitants this year.

It is an annual tradition for houses on Byron Road in New Milton to go the extra mile for the Christmas light switch on – and this year the residents are raising money for the NHS

They band together to deck their halls in luminous twinkly lights and raise money, but one home – which remains undecorated – seemingly didn’t seem to want to participate.

The Scrooge household stuck out amidst the other heavily decorated houses in the street.

Despite the cost of living crisis this street in Barton on Sea near New Milton, Hampshire, when viewed from the air, stands out from other streets in the area

Despite all the Byron Road neighbours hard work to raise charity, one Grinch didn’t get involved again this year after they also didn’t celebrate the festive seasons in 2019

The fabulously festive illuminations consist of more than 80,000 Christmas lights, nativity scenes, life-sized festive creatures and working models

They also missed the fun the previous year as some neighbours becoming fed up with the annual event, which sees the road closed and tourists standing outside their homes snapping photos.

Father-and-son duo, Ged Hollyoake and Jason Dean have run the light event for 15 years.

Mr Hollyoake takes responsibility for decorating a row of five terraced houses that include his with dazzling lights and inflatable Santas and snowmen and even pays the joint electricity bill of £250.

On Sunday November, 28, dozens of families packed into the holly jolly road to take part in the count down

The cheery crowd counted down from 10 just before 5pm before several houses lit up the dark sky with enough lights to brighten up anyone’s festive months

The preparations take two months and the electricity bill cost £250 in the past as they stay lit until the end of the year

The event, which was held annually from 2004, was forced to cancel in 2020 due to Covid restrictions. They have welcomed people from all walks of life.

Former football manager Harry Redknapp and his wife Sandra were at the event and helped switch the lights on in 2019.

The scenes take two months to set up and are left on every evening until the end of the year.

Six years ago a TV crew visited the street and spent a day filming a Cadbury’s Christmas advert, which was then broadcast nationally throughout the festive season.

The video below from 2019 shows the house not participating as it did again this year.
