Man Utd plotting bid over £50m to sign ‘next Sergio Busquets’ despite Casemiro’s impact

Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of activating the £51.5million release clause of the ‘next Sergio Busquets’ – despite Casemiro’s impressive performances.

Spanish international Martin Zubimendi has been hailed as the heir to Busquets’ throne in his homeland. And a string of solid performances for Real Sociedad has attracted interest from the whose who of European football.

According to Sport Witness, Zubimendi has a £51.5million release clause, and United want to activate it. However, the reports also suggest that the Red Devils are yet to make contact with the Basque side regarding a potential deal for the midfielder.

Barcelona are also looking for a deal – as rumours persist that Busquets could walk away from the Camp Nou over the summer.

Busquets is said to be MLS-bound, with David Beckham’s Inter Miami reportedly the front runners for his signature. And Spain star Busquets could be joined stateside by Lionel Messi who, like the Barca ace, is out of contract come the summer.

In October, Zubimendi said: “I am not worried about Barcelona right now. I have to be focused on what is coming, which is a lot and very hard.”

Sergio Busquets is set to leave Barcelona this summer

United’s interest in the midfielder coincides with Casemiro’s strong performances for club and country.

The Brazilian has rolled back the years at Old Trafford, holding the base of the midfield expertly for Erik ten Hag. It’s entirely possible Ten Hag could look to play the pair together at base – as numerous managers did with Scott McTominay and Fred.
