Fans spot Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘fake laugh’ after Goncalo Ramos has Portugal wonder show

World Cup fans spotted what they believed to be a fake laugh from Cristiano Ronaldo as the veteran reacted to his Portugal replacement Goncalo Ramos grabbing his second of three.

The former Manchester United, Juventus and Real Madrid forward was dropped to the bench by Fernando Santos with 21-year-old Ramos then scoring three times in their 6-1 romp.

Despite only playing the last 20 minutes off the bench, the cameras had already spent plenty of time on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner – including when Ramos doubled his tally.

One Twitter user said at that moment: “Fake laugh from Ronaldo when Ramos scored his second. He must be fuming.”

A second agreed: “Ronaldo out here forcing laughs, but he’s dying of anger inside.”

A third posted: “Ronaldo. He’s forcing to laugh.”

Others said that Ronaldo looked delighted for his colleagues with whom he celebrated the victory, with Gary Neville giving him praise for not sulking.

The 37-year-old also applauded the crowd who had given him a rousing reception both before and after his cameo display, in which he scored before the offside flag was raised.

With Ramos netting a treble, Pepe headed home with Raphael Guerreiro and Rafael Leao finishing off fine team moves after Manuel Akanji’s consolation.

Ronaldo was dropped to the bench for the crunch round of 16 clash after boss Fernando Santos criticised his attitude following their defeat against South Korea.

Santos admitted that he didn’t like Ronaldo’s comments and gestures towards a rival player who had mocked his substitution, saying that he was fed up of all the talk being about Ronaldo.

He said before the game: “I didn’t like it. I really didn’t like it. But from that moment onwards everything is finished regarding that issue. These matters are resolved behind closed doors.”
