Man Utd turn to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal replacement as transfer solution

Manchester United are plotting a move for Portugal striker Goncalo Ramos, as a means of replacing the departed Cristiano Ronaldo.

Erik ten Hag’s side are somewhat lacking in the forward areas ever since Ronaldo’s contract was torn up, in the wake of his explosive interview with Piers Morgan. However, ironically, the Red Devils have reportedly turned their attention to Santos, who managed to take Ronaldo’s starting berth in Fernando Santos’ side.

Ramos’ had a devastating, instant impact for the 2016 European Champions, smashing home a hat-trick in their 6-1 victory over South Korea in the quarter-finals, but could not replicate his heroics against Morocco. And his eye catching displays in Qatar could soon earn him a huge transfer to United.

According to the Sunday Express, United are plotting a January move for the Benfica forward. While his World Cup heroics projected him into the mainstream, he is also quietly enjoying a very impressive campaign for the Portuguese giants.

He has already contributed nine goals and three assists in eleven Liga Portuguese appearances this season. And he could very well fill the Ronaldo-shaped void that is currently languishing in Ten Hag’s frontline.

The Dutchman recently confirmed his intentions to sign a new striker in the coming January transfer window. However, he also went out of his way to emphasise that his side will not be forced into a panic signing.

Ronaldo endured a very frustrating World Cup

“We want to sign a striker in January but only when we find the right player,” said Ten Hag. “I cannot give comments on specific players.

“I will never do that. Players have contracts and I respect that but rest assured we are working in the background to get the right players in.

“We are doing everything in our power. We are doing research on every opportunity and we do everything we can if that opp is there to contract them.”
