Matt Hancock’s scorned ex-wife could take his place as MP after wannabe celeb quits

Matt “Coco” Hancock may be replaced as MP by his estranged wife.

The wannabe celeb’s ex Martha is being urged to stand in his seat in West Suffolk.

Tory party insiders want her to be their candidate to replace Coco, who announced he will be stepping down after his stint in the I’m A Celeb jungle.

A source said: “Martha is very active in local politics. People think she could stand. She is being encouraged to put herself forward.”

Martha split from Coco last year after a video of him snogging aide Gina Coladangelo was leaked.

People are now calling for Martha to take his place

West Suffolk councillor Ian Houlder reckons the scandal could help Martha to win.

He said: “She would have to throw her hat into the ring with all the other applicants.

“She may get through on a sympathy vote.”

Hancock announced he is stepping down as an MP and abandoning his political career – just weeks after finishing third on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.

He was stripped of his Conservative status

The ex-Tory MP was stripped of the Conservative whip after it emerged he was joining the reality TV show, prompting speculation about his political future and whether he would stand again at the next general election in around two years time.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, he told Rishi Sunak: “It has been an honour to serve in Parliament and represent the people of West Suffolk.

“I will play my part in the debate about the future of our country and engage with the public in new ways.”
