‘France won the game but you won our hearts!’: Morocco fans heap praise on their team despite their World Cup exit… claiming Walid Regragui’s side made them ‘proud’, gave them ‘hope’ and ‘united’ them like ‘never before’

Fans have taken to social media to heap praise on Morocco for their performance in Wednesday night’s semi-final clash with France. 

Morocco lost 2-0 to France in the semi-final of the World Cup at the Al Bayt Stadium, with Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani finding the back of the net.

However, the Morocco fans were nothing but supportive of their team after the game and praised Walid Regragui’s side for becoming the first African and Arab country to make a World Cup semi-final.  

Fans have taken to social media to heap praise on Morocco for their performances in Qatar

Morocco fans and football fans in general have been blown away by Regragui’s side. They were hoping the underdogs would pull-off another tournament upset, but it wasn’t meant to be. 

However, that didn’t stop them from heaping praise on Morocco. One fan took to Twitter to say: ‘Excellent spirit showed by #Morocco well played in whole tournament win or lose is a part of a game & you played really well against the top teams & Congratulations.’ 

Another fan added: ‘Can’t complain, Morocco played well and this sets the path for the future. Shame they couldn’t score but to get to the semi and play like this is to be proud of. Well done to France.’

Morocco became the first African and Arab country to make a World Cup semi-final

One supporter said: ‘Morocco we’re the better team as well. Absolutely brilliant performance but just lacked the cutting edge to score. France been lucky/clinical last 2 games’. 

While one said: ‘Morocco is the biggest takeaway of this World Cup. A sensational team which will inspire an entire generation. The whole team, the manager, everyone was just amazing, but my favorite players of this lot will be Boufal, Amrabat and Ounahi! Heads up, you’ve made football proud.’

Another said: ‘So proud of Morocco! Nobody gave them a chance, not even getting out of the group stage. But they not only topped their group but also defeated Belgium, then Spain and Portugal respectively in knockouts. What they did in this World Cup will forever remain in our hearts.’ 

While others thanked Morocco by saying: ‘Thank you Morocco for what you’ve given our Muslim ummah. You made us proud, gave us hope, and united us in a way I’ve never seen before. This is worth more than any trophy ever will.’ 

Another added: ‘Thank you for this amazing World Cup, Morocco! I’m really proud of this equip, best WC ever!!! Morocco made us dream, and showed to the world who we are!!! inshallah we’ll win the 3nd position.’ 

While one Morocco fan insisted their time would come. They wrote: ‘One day, comrades, our story will be different. For now we are grateful, for we had a moment of loving football again—despite all the despites, from commercialisation to corruption—and believing in another world, another order.’ 

Meanwhile, football fans in general congratulated Morocco for what they achieved. One said: ‘Well played Morocco. Experience won on the day, France has been here before’. Another added: ‘France won the match but Morocco won our hearts #MoroccoVsFrance’. 

Another added: ‘Congrats Morocco, you did well and proved that you were the superior red and green team.’ 

While one finished by saying: ‘So happy that Morocco put up a tough fight in what was nothing less than a nail-biting match! You played great boys!’.
