Two louts caught stealing 8ft Santa Claus after trashing charity’s Christmas Grotto

An eight-foot giant Santa Claus has been stolen by “idiots with no morals,” a charity has said.

The brazen act, which was caught on CCTV, saw the louts stealing the £180 Father Christmas, as well as two giant bell displays valued at around £100.

They also made off with a reindeer face and two handmade lanterns.

It happened at around 2.30pm on Sunday (December 11), but was only discovered when staff at the Darlaston All Active charity in Walsall arrived to open the grotto for locals to visit.

Around 80 people had booked to visit that afternoon.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Project manager Sharon Felton told us that she was “shocked” by the situation.

She said: “We wanted to do something after Covid, and the community wanted to do something for the younger generation – some of them have never seen Santa in person before because of the pandemic.

“The decorations belonged to people in our community.

“The community built that grotto.”

Sharon had reported the incident to the police, but has been left disappointed at the response.

CCTV images show the thieves caught in the act

She claims that they have already closed the case a few hours after it opened, and that West Midlands Police’s online system wouldn’t allow her to upload the footage or photos for them to see before a decision was made.

Sharon said: “I gave it to police, they gave me a crime reference number and then told me a few hours later that the case was closed.

“I even have a photo of one of the blokes walking up the street with the Santa.

Items were donated from community members to the grotto

“They didn’t even give me a chance to upload the footage.”

Ms Felton is adamant that the culprits are not from the local area.
