Mike Tindall has revealed how the Prince of Wales reacted when he told him he was planning to go on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here.
Speaking on his podcast, The Good, the Bad and the Rugby, the former England captain, who is married to Prince William‘s cousin Zara, spoke about approaching the royal ahead of his appearance.
Mike explained how he hadn’t asked for permission to appear on the show, saying: ‘You don’t want to upset anyone. I spoke to the Prince of Wales about it and he said ‘Great, go have fun’.’
Prince William and Mike have long enjoyed a close friendship, and are often snapped sharing a joke at royal events – and can’t resist a hug when they see each other in public.

Elsewhere, Mike said he didn’t receive any warnings about what he could or couldn’t share about the royal family on the show.
However he told how he kept some ‘conversations short’ about The Firm.
It was previously reported that the 43-year-old former England rugby player, ‘did not seek permission’ from King Charles to appear on the reality programme, according to the Times.
The bond between cousins, such as the Tindalls, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, is particularly close for members of the Royal Family, who might struggle to let outsiders into their inner circle.

Such is the closeness between the cousins that they are all part of a WhatsApp group where they exchange messages on upcoming events and family news.
‘Me, my brother and then a few of Zara’s side like her brother Pete [Phillips] and the cousins are on WhatsApp groups,’ Mike once revealed.
‘I wouldn’t say we’re cutting edge, but it’s just easier for some reason on WhatsApp.’
He added on a separate occasion: ‘It’s just what you do to try and set up get-togethers and we are going to something that is the same.
‘If you are going to go, [we discuss things like] ‘Are you going to take the kids?’ Quite a lot of people have family WhatsApp groups.’
Lighthearted: Zara and Mike are often seen joking with William and Kate, as seen above at the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations in 2016
Mike enjoys a particularly close friendship with Prince William, 40.
The pair are often snapped sharing a joke at royal events – and can’t resist a hug when they see each other in public.
William and Mike have been photographed looking pally at several public engagements, with the ex-England rugby player going along to support the royal at polo matches in the past.
They have also been willing to get stuck in with the other’s children. Mike has been snapped carrying Prince George, eight, on his shoulders, while William gave Mia, eight, a ride.
Mia and George appear to get on particularly well and have been seen playing together at royal events.
Last month, Prince William was asked whether he wanted Tindall to win the competition when he arrived at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

The future king is thought to have a friendship with another contestant – England Lioness Jill Scott – and so opted for a more diplomatic answer.
Corporal Rachael Howes asked William who he wanted to win, saying: ‘I asked him who he wanted to win, Lioness Jill Scott or his relative Mike Tindall.’
She said the Prince of Wales smiled at the question, and replied: ‘That’s a tricky one.’
A royal expert had claimed the Prince and Princess of Wales would likely be ‘very upset and sad’ over the former rugby player’s behaviour in the jungle.
Royal author Angela Levin accused Princess Anne’s son-in-law, 44, of ‘demeaning’ the Royal Family by participating in the hit ITV reality series.
During his time in the jungle, the former rugby star won over fans by giving an honest insight into his marriage and surprise rapping skills .
The father-of-three revealed that he and his wife Zara got ‘smashed’ on their ‘boozy’ first date back in 2003, which the expert insisted wasn’t ‘anybody’s business’ but their own.
She said: ‘I think it brings the royal family into disrepute.’
Speculating why the rugby pro signed up for the series, Angela suggested that the father was either ‘bored’ or just ‘wanted to have some fun’.
