Ricky Hatton names heavyweight fight he’d rather see over Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk

Ricky Hatton believes Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder is the best possible fight in the heavyweight division.

Both Joshua and Wilder are attempting to get their careers back on track after defeats to Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury respectively.

But while the boxing world looks ahead to Usyk and Fury facing off in an undisputed showdown early next year, Hatton hopes their heavyweight rivals will soon go head-to-head.

Joshua has been tipped to take on Dillian Whyte in a return to the ring in 2023 while Wilder is weighing up his next bout after breezing past Robert Helenius earlier this year.

Asked about the prospect of Joshua taking on Wilder, Hatton told BeanymanNews that it was “the best fight out there.”

He added: “You want to see Usyk and Tyson because they are the top two but if you ask me which fight I would rather see in the heavyweight division, it is Joshua vs Wilder.

“You would pay all day long for that. I wouldn’t like to call it, I think it would be a case of who lands first.”

It comes after Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott revealed the American wants to take on Joshua, although he believes the Brit would be knocked out inside three rounds.

Anthony Joshua is plotting his return to the ring

He claimed: “The fight was supposed to already have happened. He is a big-time boxer and he is only getting older, let’s get these big fights made.

“AJ is available but is he mentally available? Is he willing to fight Deontay right now? I think it is a three-round fight. Deontay comes fast and if you can’t get out of the way of it, you are in trouble. If AJ signs the contract, he is in trouble.”

While boxing fans may have to wait to see that bout, Usyk and Fury are edging closer to a unification fight in early 2023 with talks ongoing between the two camps.

They have both agreed to fight each other next and it remains to be seen where it would be held, although Wembley Stadium remains a viable option.

Deontay Wilder was twice beaten by Tyson Fury

And Hatton, who has trained with Fury in the past, has backed the Gypsy King to extend his unbeaten record with a victory.

“I can’t see past Tyson, I can’t see him losing to anyone. Usyk is an Olympic gold medalist, undisputed cruiserweight and heavyweight champion of the world so if anyone has a chance, it’s him,” the Hitman added.

“But Tyson is bigger, he is taller, he is stronger, he can fight orthodox or south paw. It is hard to look against Tyson.”
