Woman baffles doctors after accidentally leaving tampon in for two years

A doctor was left stunned after discovering a two-year-old tampon inside a woman.

Melanie Galeaz, from Massachusetts, US, believes she inserted the tampon when she was a young teenager, and experienced a wealth of health problems, which baffled doctors for the following two years.

Melanie, now 22, shared her traumatic teen experience on TikTok in a viral clip that has racked up more than 16 millions views, as well as using the social media channel to answer then many questions about her experience from viewers.

In a Q&A session responding to the question why she didn’t get Toxic Shock Syndrome, Mel opened up about the health problems she suffered as a result of the forgotten about tampon.

She called the experience not her “proudest moment”.

Initially, Mel thought her symptoms related to Lyme disease as she was bitten by a deer tick as a young girl. Although at the time, she had all the symptoms of Lyme disease, the tests were “kind of confusing” as to whether she had it or not.

She was given a course of medicine to treat these symptoms, and was “fine” until she entered her sophomore year, when she started getting pains in her body and “some really gross stuff” happening “down south”.

Mel told viewers: ” I went to the the doctor, but I didn’t really mention the issues happening down south, which I know was my fault.

“But the doctor was really disregarding me and he was being mean.

“I was like 14 and this was really disgusting and embarrassing so I just didn’t want to deal with it.”

The writer went on to say that she hoped her symptoms were related to Lyme disease and would go away with the meds, however while the medication alleviated her pain, they didn’t improve Mel’s gynecological issues, which she would mask when she started to smell bad.

By the time Mel was a senior in college two years later, she was still having gynecological problems so she plucked the courage up to visit a gynecologist. And it was then that Mel discovered she had a tampon lodged horizontally under her cervix.

She said: “She cranks me open, looks in, and gasps. …You don’t want to hear someone gasp when they’re looking inside you. “

Mel recalled removing the tampon was painful as it was already dissolving inside of her and kept breaking apart.

She also recalled that the doctor couldn’t believe that she had the tampon inside her for two years.

However, Mel explained to the doctor that she had been experiencing gynaecological problems for two years, telling her, “I don’t know what to tell you.”

Upon finding the lost tampon, doctors suspected Mel developed an infection in her body as a result of her tampon, which would account for the pain and issues downstairs.

At the end of her post Mel reveals, that in fact, at one stage, she would have had three tampons inside her at one point, revealing that at some point in the two years of gynecological issues, she removed a tampon and “another one came out with it”.

Mel said: “So I had one in me for two years, one in me for an unknown amount of time, and one in me for like eight hours.”
