Football fan, 53, dies from heart attack after Valencia match was suspended

The football fan who suffered a heart attack during Valencia’s clash with Cadiz has died.

Los Che’s match at the Mestalla Stadium had been delayed ahead of kick-off due to a medical emergency in the stands. The 53-year-old was treated in the stands, before he was transferred to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to a heart attack.

Valencia tweeted: “We deeply regret the death of the Valencia supporter who had been urgently treated tonight at Mestalla before kickoff. Our sincere condolences go to his family and friends. RIP.”

Valencia and Cadiz players had been leaving the pitch following their pre-match warm-up, when fans in the crowd had signalled for medical attention.

The fan had been quick to receive medical attention from qualified personnel, and he was quickly stretched out of the stadium to a local hospital. Fans applauded the medical personnel for their efforts as they left the ground.

Cadiz said on Twitter: “Cadiz CF wants to send his condolences to the family and friends of the fan of @valenciacf who died after being treated at Mestalla. D.E.P.”



Cadiz beat Valencia 1-0 on Friday evening

The match was delayed as a result of the fan receiving medical attention, but it still went ahead with Cadiz claiming a 1-0 win away from home.

The result has lifted Cadiz out of the La Liga relegation zone, while Valencia continues with their mid-table mediocrity, remaining tenth in the table.
