Louis van Gaal’s heartbroken wife cried her eyes out when Man Utd savagely sacked him

Ex-Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed his wife burst into tears when he was sacked by the Red Devils in 2016.

United had just won their first trophy of the post-Fergie era – with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup. However, the party would soon be over for Van Gaal, and the Dutchman was informed he was sacked two days later.

And in Amazon Prime’s documentary ‘Van Gaal’, his wife Truus has opened up about the experience. She said: “I knew Louis would be fired by Manchester United. I felt it. Suddenly, they stopped greeting us, just waved from afar. Something was wrong. It was female intuition.

“Then when the man [Woodward] denies it, Louis accepts it. I said, ‘Louis, you’re going to be fired. Get wise to it.’ And I slammed the door of the apartment shut.

“After the FA Cup final, Louis said, ‘Well, we did it!’ I said, ‘Louis, they say you’ve been fired. He got so angry! ‘Why did you have to spoil my party? Stop all this aggressive nonsense!’

“Later, he said, ‘Hi, it’s Louis. You can come home, you were right’. His voice sounded broken, so I said, ‘Alright, I’m on my way’. When I came home I could see he’d been crying. I hugged him. I had tears in my eyes too.”

However, in 2021 he came out of retirement for a third stint at the helm of the Netherlands. The 71-year-old beat prostate cancer to be in the dugout for the Dutch team in Qatar – where they lost to eventual winners Argentina in the quarter-finals.
