Frank Lampard breaks silence with heartfelt message to Everton fans after sacking

Former Everton manager Frank Lampard has broken his silence with a heartfelt message to the club’s supporters.

The former Derby County and Chelsea boss was given the chop at Goodison Park on Monday (January 23) following a dismal run of results that has left the Merseysiders in serious threat of relegation. And while Lampard has recognised he was walking into a “tough moment” last season, the ex-England star has released a classy message on social media.

“Coming in to Everton last year I knew we were in a tough moment and I will always be proud of the incredible work and support from everyone involved to keep the team in the Premier League last season,” said Lampard to his 5.9million Instagram followers.

“Thanks to everybody that played their part as the whole club came together. I will never forget the incredible night against [Crystal] Palace that we shared. I want to thank all Evertonians for the welcome that you gave to myself, my staff, and my family.

“It truly is a special club with a huge heart, and an incredible history. I’m disappointed that we couldn’t achieve more together and wish all the players and everyone at Everton FC the very best for the future.”

The touching message was posted alongside a photo of Lampard leading the celebrations at Goodison Park after Everton secured their Premier League status at the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Toffees board are understood to have wielded the axe following lengthy discussions about their performance at the weekend. Everton were defeated 2-0 by West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Marcelo Bielsa is the early candidate to replace Lampard in the Goodison Park hot seat. The ex-Leeds United manager has flown into London to hold further talks with the board.
