Fans joke Big Dunc’s first interview is like a ‘sketch show’ as he’s offered vegan food

Everton legend Duncan Ferguson had a hilariously uncomfortable first interview about veganism as Forest Green Rovers manager.

Big Dunc landed his first managerial appointment this week with the League One strugglers, who are an eco-friendly club thanks to their owner Dale Vince. They serve only vegan food to their players, which will also apply to the new boss.

Vince and Ferguson were interviewed by Sky Sports today (January 27) and some of Rovers’ meat-free burgers were on display – and it’s fair to say the latter didn’t looking overly eager to take a bite.

Nevertheless, he said: “I’m looking forward to trying one. I don’t think I have [tried vegan food]. They look lovely, don’t they? Very nice indeed. I look forward to eating that later!”

Vince then informed Ferguson that chips are vegan so he has had some in the past, before the interviewer asked him how environmentally friendly he is.

“We try at home,” he replied. “Obviously I need to do a lot more as we all do. The earth is warming up, isn’t it? So we need to all do our bit. Since I’ve come here, I’m sure I’ll learn a lot more.”

Ferguson had viewers in stitches with his answers. One replied: “You’re not fooling anyone lad.” A second joked: “Don’t they do vegan deep fried mars bars?”

“Gonna need an All or Nothing series on this one,” commented a third, while a fourth tweeted: “Defo going home to a plate of lamb chops.”

And another said: “Love Big Dunc. So out of his depth talking about this but he just speaks humbly and honestly. Hope he does well there.”
