Gerwyn Price left in hysterics as legendary darts ref Russ Bray makes rare blunder

Gerwyn Price was left in hysterics despite being on the brink of defeat after legendary referee Russ Bray dropped a rare clanger in a darts final.

The Iceman was taking on Peter Wright in the final of the Bahrain Darts Masters. Price had just pulled a leg back to reduce the deficit to 10-5 when Bray forgot about a scheduled break in play and started calling the next leg. However, by that point, Wright had wandered off the stage, although the struggling Price remained at the oche to have a few practice throws.

The moment certainly tickled Price, who laughed heartily at Bray. The official, after looking a little sheepish at the error initially, soon broke into a smile too.

There was just one more leg in the match as Wright closed out a 11-5 victory to win the second World Series event of the year. The darts circus has moved from the Middle East to Milton Keynes for the Masters tournament, which begins on Friday.

Price and Wright, who are among the top seeds, are due to begin their campaigns on Saturday in the second round. However, Price’s participation in the event is in doubt after he was taken ill earlier this week.

With a picture of his eyes closed and his hand on his head, Price wrote on Instagram: “Hope I feel better soon… never been so rough.” He added: “Temperature through the roof sweating but I’m cold.”

Price did admit after his defeat to Wright that he had “no fight” left in him.

“I wasn’t in the final,” he confessed. “I won five legs but probably should have won one, but Peter was playing fantastic and all credit to him. He was great in the final.

“I was burned out in this one – I just had no fight in me, I sort-of rolled over and had my belly ticked, and Peter won so fair play to him.”
