Girl, 13, stabbed with scissors during school break time ‘because she’s ginger’

A 13-year-old girl is said to have been stabbed with scissors during her school break by a boy making fun of the colour of her hair.

Daisy Andrew, 13, suffered two brutal puncture wounds to the back of the leg, with the 15mm injuries seeing blood “fill up her shoe” in a brutal assault.

Her father, Robin Andrew, said the stabbing comes after she was mocked for her red hair, with the assailant producing a pair of scissors to carry out the “unprovoked attack”.

The 13-year-old was taken to A&E immediately after the double leg stabbing at Homewood School in Tenterden, Kent on January 24.

Robin Andrew has said his daughter was targeted over the colour of her hair

Speaking of the attack, dad Robin Andrew, 43, said: “She told him to go away because she doesn’t usually let stuff like that bother her.

“She turned around and thought he had gone away, but then he produced half a pair of scissors and said ‘look I’ve got this shank here!’ and stuck it in the back of her leg twice.

“Blood was all down her tights and filled up her shoe. She needs new shoes because we can’t clean them out. This was an unprovoked attack on her because of the colour of her hair.

“I think in the back of her mind now next time someone makes a remark like that is that what she is to expect?”

The brutal stabbing left the 13-year-old bleeding from the back of her leg

Andrew, who says his wife took Daisy to the hospital where doctors “stuck the holes back together”, is said to have been supportive of the school’s actions following the attack.

A spokesperson for the school said: “A minor injury was caused to the leg of a female pupil by a boy using a pair of small scissors.”

They added that the actions of the assailant, an unnamed boy, were “clearly unacceptable” and that school bosses would be making further inquiries before taking action.

They added: “Both sets of parents have been supportive of the school’s actions and the girl has expressed a wish to return to school as soon as possible.”
