Nando’s hikes its prices by 20% with chicken and sides now costing whopping amount

Nando’s is hiking its prices by 20% in a disaster for chicken lovers across the UK.

The price of a quarter chicken has now jacked up a whopping £1.70 when you order it with two sides.

The news of the price hikes comes despite reports that Nando’s is doing rather well on the business front, seeing its revenue pass £1billion last year.

A quarter chicken on its own was £4.25 in January 2022 – now it’s £4.95.

Meanwhile, the same dish with two sides has jumped from £8.25 to £9.95, The Mirror reports.

Increases in the cost of running restaurants and buying ingredients were the excuse of bosses when asked to justify their actions.

They also reckon that 2023 could be a volatile year, a warning that accompanies their quarter dish price hikes of 16% and 20% respectively.

But it’s not just the quarter that’s seen prices skyrocket. Half chickens are up too, going from £7.95 a year ago to £8.50.

If you want that with sides, the leap is from £12.45 to £13.50.

Likewise, 10 chicken wings are now up from £10.95 to £11.75 and if you want sides with that it’s £15.45 up to £16.75.

A whole chicken has risen from £14.50 to £14.95 – a leap of 3%.

Mum-of-two Sheila Thompson, 46, from Buxton, Derby, said: “Nando’s used to be an affordable treat but the way it is going we are going to have to look at dining out elsewhere.”

Financial analyst Susannah Streeter said: “Restaurants have been battered by higher costs, with essentials rising sharply. Chicken prices have risen by 27% over the year, vegetable fat by 34%, cheese by 28% and bread by 20%.

“Trips to favourite restaurants may have to be fewer and far between.”

A Nando’s spokesman added: “We continue to work hard to absorb costs wherever we can and are committed to delivering the best value possible for customers.”
