‘Cute’ Ryan Reynolds spotted celebrating Wrexham’s FA Cup tie ‘fit for Hollywood’

Ryan Reynolds truly embraced the FA Cup heading to Wrexham on Sunday as he watched his side play out a thriller against Sheffield United.

The Hollywood actor is a co-owner of the National League club, who welcomed their Championship opponents to the Racecourse Ground in a fourth round tie Reynolds dubbed as a “classic David vs Goliath.”

And it did not disappoint, as Wrexham first came from behind to lead before later grabbing what looked like a late winner. Paul Mullin’s strike in the 86th minute sent Wrexham’s fans wild in raucous celebrations as they were convinced they were about to taste victory.

The Red Dragons had hauled themselves from a goal down after Oli McBurnie had given the visitors the lead after just two minutes. Goals from James Jones and Thomas O’Connor put Wrexham ahead, before Oliver Norwood’s equaliser levelled things up.

Sheffield United then had Daniel Jebbison sent off for lashing out at Ben Tozer, before Wrexham’s Ollie Palmer hammered a shot off the underside of the crossbar. Wrexham kept their belief and you sensed a goal might come, as Mullin turned home a loose ball inside the box to send the stadium into raptures.

Sadly for Reynolds, his side couldn’t hold on, as John Egan’s 95th-minute goal ensured the two sides will have to do it all again in a replay. That could prove too much for Reynolds to bear as he appeared to go through every emotion possible in an afternoon of extreme highs and lows.

He was seen going wild in the director’s box during the game, with one fan commented on Twitter: “Ryan Reynolds being at the game and celebrating Wrexham’s goal is so cute, please, I keep forgetting he bought the club.”

Reynolds had joined BBC Sport for their live broadcast prior to kick-off and admitted: “I get nervous because a match like today, Sheffield United are three leagues above us, 70 teams above us, this is an extraordinary moment, classic David and Goliath.” BBC presenter Gary Lineker chimed in: “You’ll hear a phrase – ‘This is what the FA Cup is all about’.”

Reynolds replied: “This is what the FA Cup is all about, that’s where I’m going with this. It’s a classic David vs Goliath story but you guys know this more than anybody on earth that this is football, this is the beautiful game and absolutely anything can happen.”

With tongue firmly in cheek, he added: “And I think – I’m gonna put it on record right now that there’s a chance, albeit a very slim chance that Sheffield United pulls off a miracle today.”
