Meet Wrexham’s FA Cup superstar who has Hollywood swooning over his talents

Paul Mullin admits he is looking up to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as markers of success – but it already a hero around Wrexham and with the Hollywood megastars.

The former Liverpool youth prospect moved to the Racecourse Ground in 2021 and gone on to score 59 goals across just 76 matches as they eye promotion to the Football League.

With Wrexham hosting Sheffield United in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon, the 28-year-old is very much the man to watch rather than his movie and TV star bosses.

Mullin enjoyed a long spell with Morecambe before moderate success at Swindon Town and Tranmere Rovers, later choosing to move to Wrexham in non-league rather than sign a new deal with League One Cambridge United.

Having scored 32 times in his first season at the club as they agonisingly missed out on promotion and FA Trophy glory, he picked up the National League’s Golden Boot and Player of the Season.

Mullin has netted 27 goals across 32 appearances this time out across all competitions with Wrexham top of the National League after 27 fixtures.

Having hit the headlines for posing with ‘F*** the Tories’ football boots back in October before the plan was scrapped, Mullin now wears a message in support of his son’s following autism diagnosis.

Speaking to talkSPORT before the fixture, Mullin said: “I think both Rob and Ryan are really good at making everyone feel comfortable, that’s one of their strengths.

Wrexham take on Sheffield United in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday

“The way they were perceived in the world – which they are in their own right – as big A-list superstars, but for us they’re just normal people.

“They really try to get that across to you that they’re just like you, and they’re just really successful at their jobs and it’s the same as us, we want to be successful like them.”

Wrexham host Championship Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon (January 29) in a bid to reach the fifth round of the competition having already beaten Blyth Spartans, Oldham Athletic, Farnborough and Coventry City.
