Hafthor Bjornsson looks a lot less scary as ex-World’s Strongest Man shaves off beard

Hafthor Bjornsson, the former World’s Strongest Man, looks unrecognisable after shaving off his iconic beard.

The Icelander shot to fame when he played the fearsome character The Mountain in HBO’s hit tv series Game of Thrones in the early 2010s. And his fearsome appearance, standing at 6ft 9in and over 100kg, shocked fans.

However, even in Game of Thrones, Bjornsson sported some sort of a beard – and he might have been renamed ‘The Teddy Bear’ had casting directors seen him without it. The Icelander looked like a different man, as fans begged him to never shave his beard again.

One fan joked: “Oh my damn! That’s worse than how you looked after fighting Oberyn Martell! Put it back on! Put it back on!”

“Never shave again. Even if it’s a choice between death or beard, choose beard bro,” a second joked. While a third added: “I’ve always said you only have a beard bc you’re ugly without one!”

And a fourth said: “With the bear, you look Hercules tough, without you look like a woman!”

Bjornsson has since walked away from the World’s Strongest Man competition – dramatically shedding weight as he leaned down for boxing bouts.

He since teased going back: “You never know. I haven’t made my decision today, but I can tell you this — I might come back.”
