Jorginho’s Arsenal shirt number REVEALED before confirmation of switch from Chelsea

Jorginho’s shirt number at Arsenal is REVEALED in leaked photo on his agent’s Instagram hours before the Gunners announced he had completed a £12m switch from Chelsea on deadline day

Arsenal have completed the signing of Jorginho from Chelsea on deadline day – several hours after the midfielder’s squad number appears to have been leaked on his agent’s Instagram account

The 31-year-old, who emerged as a late target for Mikel Areta and Arsenal after the Gunners accepted defeat in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo, has joined the club in a £12million deal.

Jorginho, who wore the No 5 shirt for Chelsea, is now expected to sport the No 20 jersey as he looks to help guide his new side to the Premier League title.

A picture of Jorginho in an Arsenal shirt for the first time was leaked on his agent’s Instagram

Ahead of the official confirmation of his transfer, Jorginho was pictured in his new colours alongside his agent, Joao Santos, with the image later being leaked on a deadline day that has seen his switch become one of the stories of the window.

The picture showed Jorginho in an Arsenal shirt and tracksuit bottoms with the number 20 in full view. The squad number was previously held by Nuno Tavares, who is out on loan at Marseille.

Jorginho’s arrival comes as  major boost for Arteta, who is a long-term admirer of the Italian midfielder. Jorginho won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, and beat Arsenal to the Europa League title in 2018-19 while at Chelsea.

His arrival will also fill a gap in midfield, which Arteta was desperate to do during the January transfer window with both Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny currently out injured.

The 31-year-old, who had just six months left on his Blues deal, was not deemed crucial to Chelsea’s squad, as they look to make room for incoming Argentine wonderkid Enzo Fernandez, who is reportedly close to joining from Benfica.

Arsenal’s move to sign Chelsea midfielder Jorginho is a 10/10 deal, says Chris Sutton

Jorginho’s arrival has split the Arsenal fanbase, but Sportsmail’s Chris Sutton believes it’s a shrewd piece of business by the north London club.

‘I’m surprised he’s gone to Arsenal and Chelsea are helping Arsenal,’ he told Transfer Confidential. ‘I think, from Arsenal’s point of view, he may be the signing which helps him win the Premier League. I think that he’s a really talented player.

‘This looks like a compromise because they’re saying “we’re not going to get Moises Caicedo and we’re not going to get Declan Rice in this window”. At 31 it’s a good piece of business, for £10m or £12m it’s cheap as chips.

‘From Arsenal’s point of view, that’s a 10. I I really think that’s a no brainer and a smart piece of business.’
