Man Utd enquire about World Cup star just hours before end of Transfer Deadline Day

Manchester United have made an enquiry about World Cup star Daichi Kamada just hours before the January transfer window closes.

The Red Devils followed their loan signings of Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst this January by swooping in for Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer. The Austrian arrived at Carrington on Tuesday night to finalise the deal, which will keep him at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

But United do not appear content with stopping there, having reportedly expressed interest in bringing in attacking-midfielder Kamada from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim Erik ten Hag’s side have shown interest in the 26-year-old following Christian Eriksen’s three month long injury, which will leave them left short of creativity in midfield.

Kamada featured four times for Japan at the World Cup, including the full 90 minutes of the historic 2-1 win over Germany in their opener. He has netted 12 goals across all competitions this season while notching a further five assists.

Do you think Man Utd will sign anyone other than Sabitzer on Deadline Day? Let us know in the comments section.

Daichi Kamada is enjoying his most fruitful season for Eintracht Frankfurt

The midfielder’s contract runs out in the summer

It marks Kamada’s most prolific season for the German side, having made a total of 157 appearances since his 2017 move from Sagan Tosu.

Yet the midfielder is also out of contract in the summer, meaning Frankfurt will either have to accept a relatively low fee or face losing him for free at the end of the season.

United were also said to be keen on bringing in Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, having failed to successfully convince the Dutchman to join last summer. Any last minute deals for De Jong would come as a huge shock given his huge transfer value and importance to the Catalan side.
