A 50ft medieval-style tower home has gone on sale for £600,000 in northern England.

Tower Court in Greenmount, Greater Manchester, was originally built as a water tower but has been converted into a home.

The tower home has modern rooms, appliances and a private rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the countryside of Greater Manchester.

The design is understood to follow that of a medieval castle, with battlements, faux-arrow slits and an imposing, portcullis-style arched entrance.

The property was built in 1840 by Joshua Knowles, with the tower used to contain a water supply

The tower is in its own, private, electric-gated courtyard, surrounded by crenelated walls.

Visitors arrive at the porcelain-tiled ground-level entrance hall, which leads to a modern kitchen and lounge.

There are two bedrooms on the second floor, as well as an en-suite and family bathroom.

The third floor has another bedroom which can be used as a bar or entertainment room.

The roof garden is the top floor and has panoramic views of the surrounding  countryside and of Greenmount’s Peel Tower.

Fine and Country Estate Agents are marketing the property for £600,000

The property was built in 1840 by Joshua Knowles, with the tower used to contain a water supply incase the neighbouring farm caught fire.

A spokesman for Fine and Country Estate Agents of Rossendale, who are selling the Tower, said it was currently owned by a young professional person who had decided to relocate to buy a new home with his partner.

He said: ‘On a fine day the views are beyond Manchester city centre and it’s surrounded by farmland and countryside.

‘Despite it being an unusual home, it’s actually got a great mix of bedrooms and reception space, so it would also be good for someone who loves entertaining.’
