Tom Brady confirms he’s ‘retiring for good’ after NFL icon made U-turn last year

Tom Brady has announced he is “retiring for good” from NFL.

Brady originally quit the sport last year but performed a surprise U-turn to continue playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, has now committed to the decision once and for all in an emotional video posted on Twitter.

He captioned the clip: “Truly grateful on this day. Thank you.” Struggling not to tear up, Brady explained the reason behind his decision to retire for a second time. “Good morning guys, I’ll get to the point right away,” he began.

“I’m retiring…for good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first. I won’t be long-winded, I think you only get one super emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year.

Brady confirmed his retirement on Twitter

“Thank you so much to every single one of you for supporting me. My family, my friends, my team-mates, my competitors, I could go on forever, there’s too many. Thank you guys, for allowing me to live my absolute dream, I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all.”

Brady, 45, originally announced his retirement on this day last year but reversed his decision six weeks later, citing that he had “unfinished business.”

Unfortunately for the American hero, his final season in the sport that served him so well did not go as he would have planned, with the Bucs’ season ending in a 31-14 play-off defeat last month.

Brady won seven Super Bowls with the Patriots and the Bucs

Despite that, Brady goes out of NFL as one of the game’s all-time greatest. Having made his debut an incredible 23 years ago in 2000, few could have predicted the career that the quarterback would go on to have.

Brady won seven Super Bowls in his career – six of them with the New England Patriots and with the help of iconic coach Bill Belichick – before adding a seventh with Tampa Bay in 2021.
