Three people ‘assaulted’ at Premier League Darts as police launch enquiry

Police have launched an investigation after three people, including a woman, were reportedly assaulted in the stands during the opening night of Premier League darts in Belfast on Thursday.

Shocking footage of the incident surfaced on social media showing an all-out brawl between several audience members, with many of them climbing over seats and throwing punches.

Belfast police confirmed to Daily Star Sport on Friday morning that they were aware of the incident and had launched an inquiry into the matter.

“Police received reports of an altercation involving a number of people during a sporting event in east Belfast on Thursday evening (February 2nd),” their statement read.

“It was reported to police that two men and a woman were assaulted during the incident, however no serious injuries were reported.

“Enquiries are ongoing and police would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact 101.”

As for actual darts, newly-crowned Masters champion Chris Dobey stunned six-time Premier League winner Michael van Gerwen in the final, having beaten two-time former world champion Peter Wright in the quarter-finals before downing Nathan Aspinall in the semis.

A captivating final, which saw Dobey reel in a 170 checkout in the second leg, went all the way to a deciding leg with Dobey landing a sensational 160 checkout to cap a memorable week.

“I’m living the dream,” said a delighted Dobey, who appeared in his ever television darts final against Rob Cross on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Gerwyn Price was booed off stage following his narrow defeat to Aspinall, just a few weeks after his ear-defender stunt at the World Darts Championship.
