Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay part of Man Utd plan for six big money sales in summer
Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay will lead an exodus of six big-name Manchester United players in a fire sale this summer.
United splashed the cash last summer to bring in a number of expensive arrivals to help Erik ten Hag get his new tenure at Old Trafford off to a good start. The Dutchman is beginning to make good headway with his project as United sit inside the top four as they chase silverware in three other competitions.
This summer is set to be another busy one for Ten Hag, as United opted against making any permanent transfers in the January window to save their cash for another assault on the transfer market ahead of next season. But part of their plans will be shipping out some of the stars who are now deemed surplus to requirements.

Club captain Maguire will be the biggest high-profile exit after falling down the pecking order under his manager, reports The Mirror. The 29-year-old has lost his place to Lisandro Martinez in United’s back four and teammates Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw are all preferred in the left centre-back role.
United paid £80m to sign Maguire in 2019 and will look to recoup as large a fee as possible, though they’re unlikely to get anywhere near that figure. McTominay is another whose chances of first-team football are slowly diminishing.

The Scottish midfielder has remained a regular performer under Ten Hag, though is no longer part of the first-choice midfield selection with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen thriving alongside Bruno Fernandes since their respective arrivals. Ten Hag is keen to add both a central defender and a defensive central midfielder to his ranks this summer, paving the way for Maguire and McTominay to move on.
Newcastle had shown an interest in McTominay, 26, while Inter Milan enquired about taking Maguire on loan before the January window closed. In addition to those areas, Ten Hag wants a new striker to permanently replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
Wout Weghorst has come in on a short-term loan until the end of the season, just like Marcel Sabitzer has to bolster United’s midfield. But Ten Hag is eyeing a big-name signing for the summer to lead United’s attack, with Anthony Martial one of the players he is open to offloading.
The Frenchman, 27, has failed to truly make his mark at Old Trafford despite arriving for a big fee amid plenty of competition for his signature eight years ago. Donny van de Beek is another who has struggled to cut his cloth at United and will be put up for sale.
The Dutchman has been a bit-part player since his £40m switch from Ajax in September 2020 and looks unlikely to ever fulfil his promise in a United shirt. The 25-year-old is currently out injured and is ruled out of the remainder of the season, meaning he may have played his last game for the club.
The remaining two players Ten Hag is prepared to sell are already playing their football elsewhere. Full-back Alex Telles, 30, is out on loan at Sevilla and has no future at United with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia competing for minutes on the left side of defence.
Meanwhile, Eric Bailly, 28, only signed a new contract less than two years ago but is plying his trade at Marseille and is not considered part of Ten Hag”s plans.
