‘It was a privilege to perform alongside a guitar genius’: Sir Rod Stewart pays tribute to late friend Jeff Beck with a floral display and heartfelt written note

Sir Rod Stewart paid tribute to Jeff Beck this week as he attended the late guitarist’s funeral in South London.

The musician, 78, penned a heartfelt written note to go alongside a beautiful display of flowers, which were delivered to the funeral.

Dubbing Jeff a ‘guitar genius’, the Forever Young singer noted that it was a ‘privilege’ to have performed alongside the star.

The Yardbirds star passed away ‘peacefully’ on January 11, aged 78, after contracting bacterial meningitis.

He and Rod performed alongside one another within The Jeff Beck Group, which was founded in 1967 and featured the latter as the lead vocalist.

The pair also made records together in the form of 1968’s ‘Truth’ and 1969’s ‘Beck-Ola’ – and one with a 64-piece orchestra, ‘Emotion & Commotion.’

Florist Louisa Jane was given the job of creating a floral arrangement for Rod to pay tribute to his late friend.

Rod’s tribute featured a collection of white roses with a hand-written note attached, while another friend ordered flowers in the shape of a heart for the funeral.

‘It was a privilege to perform alongside a proper guitar genius. Rest In Peace. See ya later jeff, Sir Rod Stewart,’ wrote the rocker.

While Louise shared a picture of the sweet ode to Facebook, writing: ‘Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of making a tribute from Sir Rod Stewart and a Beautiful Large Heart from a customer that called from Los Angeles for the funeral of Jeff Beck.

‘I took them to the church and got asked by family to place them by the entrance of the church. A well loved man he was, so many people there.’

Sir Rod joined fellow stars such as Johnny Depp and Ronnie Wood at the funeral as they said a final farewell to one of rock’s all time greats

The late star was laid to rest at St Mary’s Church in Beddington, Sutton, with a host of rock royalty attending to pay their final respects.

Sir Rod and Jeff reunited for a one-off performance in 2019 at the Hollywood Bowl, which began with Rod and his solo band playing a long set of hits, before Jeff came out for an extended encore.

And as the latter’s death was announced last month, his close pal rushed to social media to pen a tribute.

Sharing a collection of throwback pictures, Sir Rod wrote: ‘Jeff Beck was on another planet . He took me and Ronnie Wood to the USA in the late 60s in his band the Jeff Beck Group and we haven’t looked back since.

‘He was one of the few guitarists that when playing live would actually listen to me sing and respond.

‘Jeff, you were the greatest, my man . Thank you for everything . RIP’.
