Full footage of the incident between Casemiro and Will Hughes has Manchester United fans convinced the red card will be overturned.

The Brazilian midfielder was sent off by Andre Marriner in United’s 2-1 home win over Crystal Palace on Saturday following a VAR review. Casemiro was adjudged to have grabbed Hughes round the neck following a touchline fracas involving players from both sides as tempers flared at Old Trafford.

However, a new angle of the incident has now been shared on social media that suggests the red card could be overturned if United appeal against the decision.

The clip, which was first posted on TikTok, shows Casemiro and Hughes hugging and laughing following their altercation, suggesting little to no animosity between the pair.

As a result, fans have speculated the red card will be rescinded, with one tweeting: “I think it gets turned if United appeals it.” Another added: “Bloody hell. Casemiro and Hughes are laughing about it.”

A third supporter wrote: “This must be the first case where a player has been sent off for violent conduct and the player ‘assaulted’ doesn’t react and then hugs his attacker.” One more also commented: “Come on, that’s not violent conduct in any way shape or form.”

From a different angle, which was shown on Match of the Day, Casemiro also appears to grab Hughes’ shirt rather than his neck in a view of the incident from the stands.

Casemiro is currently set to be suspended for United’s next three Premier League matches, meaning he will miss the back-to-back matches against Leeds United and the home clash with Leicester City.

Following the match, manager Erik ten Hag hinted that United would appeal the sending off as he explained: “First of all, we have to deal with it and we will do, but it is not right. It shouldn’t have happened.

“This was avoidable and because in this incident there have to be consequences and they are inconsistent and that is not right, that is not fair against us.

“We have to think about [appealing]. But to be fair, we have seen when you’re freezing (the frame), Casemiro is crossing the line. But many more players were crossing the line there.

“We get also some warnings about our team reacting like this and I think you have to do it, you have to protect each other but we want to keep our standards and values at Man United, keep them high.”
