Cheeky Conor McGregor tips Harry Styles to get involved in ‘freestyle wrestling’

Conor McGregor has comically urged singing star Harry Styles to take up wrestling after showing off his latest outfit on Twitter.

It has been a big week for The Notorious, who finally confirmed he would be returning to the UFC after breaking his leg during his trilogy bout against rival Dustin Poirier 18 months ago. McGregor will take on American fighter Michael Chandler, although the exact date and venue is yet to be finalised.

The bout will provide the culmination to season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter, with UFC President Dana White confirming the pair will be coaches before going head-to-head: “Team McGregor vs Team Chandler. This season premieres Tuesday May 30 and runs through Tuesday August 15 on ESPN and ESPN+,” revealed White. “Then at the end of the season McGregor and Chandler will fight live on ESPN+ PPV.”

McGregor himself has retweeted a post by the official UFC account which declared “THE MAC IS BACK.” But that’s not the only social media fun he had last week, reacting to a snap of Styles dressed unusually for Saturday’s 65th Annual Grammy Awards at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Twitter commentator Ian Miles Cheong posted a picture of Styles and captioned it: “What is the first thought that enters your mind when you see this?” with the Dubliner quick to reply.

In a since deleted tweet, McGregor urged the music star to go and get involved “in freestyle wrestling.” However, Styles, 29, may not need a career change just yet given Harry’s House won Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.

McGregor was clearly referencing the outfits worn by grapplers, often known as a singlet. The clothing is often made of Lycra or spandex so that it fits tightly to the skin, and was famously worn by Olympic gold medalist turned WWE star Kurt Angle.

But whilst the 34-year-old was initially happy to weigh in on the fun, he’s yet to respond to compatriot Liam Neeson. The Hollywood actor last week launched a scathing attack on the former two-weight world champion, and his promotion.

The Taken actor said: “I hate it,” when asked about the UFC. “That little leprechaun Conor McGregor, he gives Ireland a bad name. I know he’s fit, and I admire him for that. But I can’t take it.”
