EA Sports make decision on putting Mason Greenwood back on FIFA 23 after charges dropped

EA Sports have decided not to reinstate Mason Greenwood to the FIFA game series despite all charges against the Manchester United star being dropped.

Greenwood was taken out of the game when allegations against him first surfaced in January 2022 and has remained excluded ever since.

Charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against the 21-year-old were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service last week, but United have decided to conduct their own investigation into the matter before welcoming Greenwood, who is still under contract at Old Trafford, back into the squad.

In a statement, the club said: “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.

“The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”

Following news of charges against him being dropped, Greenwood said: “I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support. There will be no further comment at this time.”

All charges against Greenwood were dropped on Thursday

A CPS statement published on Thursday confirmed that charges were dropped against Greenwood due to a “combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light”, which meant there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”

It’s understood that 12 witnesses, including the woman at the centre of allegations, refused to co-operate with proceedings.
