Ex-Miss Belgium who is wife of legendary Turkey keeper left in tears after earthquake

Former Miss Belgium Zeynep Demirel, who is the wife of former Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Demirel posted an emotional video after the horrific earthquake that has killed over 1300 people so far.

A 7.8 magnitude struck near the city of Gaziantep in south-eastern Turkey and north western Syria in the early hours of Monday morning. As well as Turkey and Syria, the tremors could also be felt across Lebanon, Cyprus, and Israel.

Another earthquake in a similar region has hit the country, this time in the city of Kahramanmaras.

“Hatay is in a disastrous situation,” a heartbroken Demirel said on her Instagram story. “Hospitals were destroyed.

“There is not enough help. Please help me.” Fortunately for Zeynep, her husband Volkan, who is now the manager of Turkish side Hatayspor, has managed to walk away from the incident.

He also took to social media to try and encourage people across the world to lend support to the victims of the earthquakes. “Help, I want you to send all the resources you have,” Volken, who amassed 63 caps for Turkey, said in another heartbreaking video on social media.

“To the environmentalist, it is not just Hatay and Antakya. Please, I am asking you. Please, please, for the love of God, people are dying here.”

Turkish goalkeeper Eyup Turkaslan is also believed to be among a huge number of people who are currently trapped beneath the rubble caused by the earthquake. While the Yeni Malatyaspor goalkeeper is yet to be found, his wife has reportedly been rescued.



Volkan Demirel was emotional after the earthquake too

His club released their own statement in response to the natural disaster that read, “We wish God’s mercy on our citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and felt in our city, and we wish a quick recovery to our injured citizens.”
