Football League journeyman mistaken for Chile boss in Sky Sports blunder

Football fans were left in disbelief after Sky Sports mistook a Championship veteran for Chile manager Eduardo Berizzo – despite them looking nothing alike.

During their coverage of a goalless draw between Blackburn vs Wigan on Monday, February 6, the camera zoomed in on a spectator with the graphic for Berizzo’s name as well as the badge of the Chile national football team, with Ben Brereton Diaz playing for the hosts.

However, there was one rather major issue with the assessment – being that the Ewood Park spectator was actually former Northern Ireland stopper Lee Camp.

Fans were left completely bemused by the mix-up, given that the duo look nothing like each other and are 15 years apart in age.

One Twitter user wrote: “Sky have just mistaken Lee Camp for the Chile manager.”

A second said: “Knew i wasnt going crazy when i saw this!”

A third posted: “Or did we mistake the chile manager for Lee Camp all this time!”

Eduardo Berizzo or Lee Camp? Tell us in the comments section below.

Chile manager Eduardo Berizzo? No it’s Lee Camp.

A fourth thought: “How the f**k do you confuse Lee Camp with the Chile manager?”

And a fifth agreed: “If that is actually Lee Camp then he’s ageing like a fine Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon!”

A sixth concluded: “Sky just said Lee Camp is f***ing Chile manager ahhahahahahaa for f**k sake.”

Former Northern Ireland stopper Lee Camp has had a glow-up in recent years

Camp, 38 played for the likes of Derby, QPR, Nottingham Forest, Birmingham and Swindon among others during 24 seasons in the Football League, making nine international appearances.

Berizzo, 53, played for Newell’s Old Boys, River Plate and Marseille during the 1990’s, going into coaching in 2007 and becoming Chile boss in 2022 after a spell with Paraguay.

The Sky Sports blunder reminded some of their Jan Siewert mistake back in 2019, in which they tried to grab a fan from the crowd – who was simply a fan.
