Leeds ‘love West Brom boss Carlos Corberan’ who flourished working with Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United have fallen in love with West Brom boss Carlos Corberan – who worked under Marcelo Bielsa in West Yorkshire.

Jesse Marsch was sacked by Leeds on Monday afternoon, one day after the Peacocks’ disappointing defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest. Leeds have themselves in free fall towards the drop zone in recent months, and Sunday was the final straw.

Marsch was brought in to replace Bielsa just under one year ago, and Leeds could look to Bielsa’s understudy as his replacement – according to 90min. Corberan spent three years at Leeds before he switched to Huddersfield Town.

At Elland Road, Corberan was the assistant manager as well as overseeing the Under 23 side.

Corberan left Huddersfield in 2022 to take over at Olympiacos, but he was sacked just months later. The Spaniard has since returned to England with West Brom, where he has transformed their season, and the Baggies are in the hunt for a Premier League spot.

West Brom has snuck into the playoff spots – and they have games in hand on some sides above them in the table.

Leeds accumulated a win percentage of just 29.73% during Marsch’s tenure – with their last win in the English top flight coming in November over Bournemouth.

The Peacocks now sit just outside of the relegation zone on goal difference, with a -8 goal difference after 20 league games.
