Brutal Billy Sharp fires shots at Ryan Reynolds’ ‘disrespectful’ Wrexham

A feisty Billy Sharp said he was “glad” Sheffield United were able to overcome a “disrespectful” Wrexham side.

Sharp’s strike in the 94th minute helped secure a 3-1 victory over the National League side in the FA Cup fourth round replay. The Welsh side, who are of course co-owned by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, had an opportunity to roar into a 2-1 lead, but Paul Mullin, who had converted a spot-kick to level the tie in the 59th minute, saw his powerful penalty saved by Adam Davies.

The Blades will host Tottenham Hotspur in the fifth round of the FA Cup on March 1. And after securing the victory for his side, Sharp lashed out at the Welsh side in his post-match interview.

“It was a great cup tie, over two games. They played excellent,” Sharp said to ITV4. “I think they have been disrespectful though, a few things before the game, thinking they was already through. I’m glad we beat them.

“They are doing well in their league, we are doing well in ours. I wasn’t very happy with a few of their players tonight, but, I’ll say now, we’ve got one over them.

“Good luck to them for promotion and hopefully we’ve put that one to bed. A few of their players I weren’t happy with. I was a little bit frustrated there, I probably should have put the game to bed before I did.”

When pushed on what he was unhappy about, Sharp promptly replied: “I wasn’t happy with the way they have been as a club. Before the game [they were] eying up Spurs when they’ve not even beat us.

Wrexham’s FA Cup adventure ended at Bramall Lane

“We are an honest set of lads and we want to go as far as we can in this competition. If we get beat in the next round, so be it, we’ll give it a right go. I think they just thought we were going to roll over when they got back in it, and I think the referee was helping them all night.

“I don’t think he gave me one foul all night tonight. But yeah, it’s one of those things, I probably lost my head a bit. But I’ve got a smile on my face because we’ve got through to the next round of the cup.”

Wrexham’s focus, off the back of their thrilling 3-3 draw with Sheffield United followed by the narrow defeat in their replay, is firmly on promotion to the Football League.

They sit second in the National League, three points behind Notts County with two games in hand.
