Ryan Reynolds reacts to FA Cup heartbreak as Wrexham cruelly denied dream Tottenham tie

Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney expressed their pride after they narrowly missed out on an FA Cup tie with Tottenham.

Having drawn 3-3 with Sheffield United at the Racecourse Ground nine days ago, the Hollywood-backed National League side travelled to Bramall Lane for their fourth-round replay this evening (February 7). It was their Championship opponents who took the lead shortly after the break through Anel Ahmedhodzic.

But Paul Mullin’s penalty drew them level just nine minutes later. The on-fire striker missed another opportunity from the spot, however, before Billy Sharp found a winner in the 94th minute and Sande Berge added the gloss at the death.

Despite the 3-1 result, both of Wrexham’s celebrity chiefs hailed the performance. Reynolds tweeted: “So proud of these boys. And the 4,000 plus away supporters who gave it all.”

McElhenney, meanwhile, posted: “I could not be more proud of those men than I am right now. They gave it absolutely everything.” And he followed that up with: “Now let’s go win this f***ing league.”

Wrexham were denied a dream FA Cup tie with Tottenham by Sheffield United

Wrexham’s attention will turn back to reaching the football league. They currently sit second in the table behind, three points behind leaders Notts County but with two games in hand.

While promotion is their main goal, welcoming Premier League outfit Tottenham in the FA Cup fifth round would’ve been a massive moment for the Welsh club.

It will be the Blades who instead host Spurs. Elsewhere in the FA Cup, Burnley beat Ipswich, Fleetwood beat Sheffield Wednesday and Grimsby beat Luton.
