Woman mortified at seeing bloke’s nickname for Hinge dates after phone alert pops up

A woman was warned of a “dating red flag” when she shared an odd encounter on a night out.

Michelle Meleskie, who lives in London, was out with her friends a week ago when she met a man who uses dating apps.

She took to TikTok and explained her “standard practice” of saving her dating matches’ contacts on phone.

“Whenever I save someone’s number in my phone from a dating app, I always call them ‘First Name Hinge’, ‘First Name Bumble’, and I thought this was standard practice,” the young woman said.

Michelle found out a surprise when a man asked her to take a picture of him

“But this guy on the weekend asked us to take a picture of him, so we had his phone and then a notification popped through from ‘Hinge girl 7’. No first name, just, ‘Hinge Girl 7’.

“And also I’m wondering at what point do you switch them from Hinge Girl 7 to their first name?”

Michelle was puzzled and questioned how the man could keep track of all the women he’s met on the dating site.

A message notification popped up and showed ‘Hinge Girl 7’ on the man’s phone

One viewer wrote: “He took the roster concept to a different level.”

“This is why I don’t save numbers at all. If I forget who you were, that’s your fault for not being memorable at this point,” a second wrote.

And a third said: “That’s how you know he is a red flag.”

But some pointed out the number after “Hinge girl” might mean something different.

Some Hinge users said they prefer to save the date’s name to avoid confusion

A person said: “Bestie, I don’t think ‘7’ means ‘number seven’ – I think it might be an attractiveness rating.”

Another added: “Does he order the numbers by attractiveness, or is he a first come first serve kinda guy?”

Meanwhile a dating expert shared a rule of three “Ps” for singletons to impress their first dates.

Harley Quinn, who has been a dating coach for around 15 years, said it’s important to send the first message.
