Man Utd fans can’t believe eyes as Leeds score in first minute at Old Trafford

Manchester United were stunned by an early goal from Premier League strugglers Leeds United.

Italian forward Wilfried Gnonto gave the away side the lead after just 55 seconds at Old Trafford. He exchanged a one-two with team-mate Patrick Bamford before beating David de Gea with a low strike which nestled in the bottom left corner.

It was the second-earliest goal United have conceded at home in the Prem, behind only Edin Dzeko’s effort after just 43 seconds in March 2014 for Manchester City. The Red Devils headed into the rearranged league clash as heavy favourites.

They’ve tasted defeat just once since the World Cup break, a narrow 3-2 loss on the road at Arsenal. Leeds, meanwhile, are currently manager-less after Jesse Marsch was sacked on Monday (February 6).

That’s why the Old Trafford crowd was silenced by the quickfire goal, and fans at home were equally shocked. One supporter tweeted: “That’s shambolic.”

Another simply slammed: “Humiliating.” And one pleaded: “Bloody hell, wake up lads!”

While Leeds put themselves in a strong position, they suffered two injury setbacks soon after. Winger Luis Sinisterra was forced off after picking up an issue from a tackle.

He was replaced by Crysencio Summerville in the eighth minute, while Junior Firpo had to come on for Pascal Struijk midway through the first half after he’d put his head in the way of a fiercely struck Marcus Rashford shot.

Leeds parted ways with former manager Marsch this week following their 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend. He’d left them 17th in the table with just 18 points after 20 matches, languishing perilously above the relegation zone.
