Arne Slot’s Feyenoord just had 50 shots in one game – proving he is ‘ready for Leeds’

Arne Slot’s Feyenoord had 50 shots against NEC Nijmegen in the Eredivisie on Wednesday evening – and fans have joked he’s destined for glory at Leeds.

Feyenoord delivered an all-time KNVB Cup classic at De Kuip, netting twice in stoppage time to fire level and send the game into extra time. NEC and Feyenoord both found the net twice, and with the score level at 4-4, it went to spot-kicks.

The Dutch league leaders ran out winners – and it was well deserved with their 50 shots, with 27 on target, on Wednesday evening. Slot has been linked with the Leeds job, after Jesse Marsch was dismissed by the Peacocks.

One fan, hoping Slot can be the next Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road, joked: “Slot is Leeds already!”

“This is probably more shots in one game than we’ve had all season,” another Leeds fans joked. While a third tweeted: “Sounds like a Leeds manager that…”

And a fourth said: “It’s going to be a match made in heaven,” with some laughing emojis.

Slot addressed the Leeds rumours after the game: “I’ve not heard anything. I’ve read it, I follow VoetbalPrimeur & Voetbal International. But I haven’t seen anything on my phone yet. What do I do when a message comes in from Leeds? Open the message.”

Leeds, whose fans crave entertaining and attacking football, have reportedly turned to Slot after their pursuit of Andoni Iraola hit a wall. But what they want in the short term more than anything is to survive.

Their hopes of avoiding relegation were boosted on Wednesday night at least, as Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, and managerless Leeds were unlucky not to come away with three points given they led by two goals and went in front inside 60 seconds.
