Billy Joe Saunders says he’s never spoken to Chris Eubank Jr but still hates him

Billy Joe Saunders has revealed that he hates bitter foe Chris Eubank Jr despite never having a conversation with him.

Saunders defeated Eubank Jr for a shot at the WBO title in December 2014 after vowing to retire if he lost. Eubank stoked the fire between the pair years later when he urged the boxing board to suspend Saunders’ licence after he appeared to condone domestic violence amid the covid outbreak.

And now Saunders has shared his disdain for Eubank Jr in a chat with Fighting On The Inside Podcast, although they’ve never spoken face to face. When asked about the status of their relationship, Saunders said: “Do you know what? I can honestly say that I’ve never spoken one word to him in my life.

Saunders’ stunning revelation prompted the host of Gloves Off, Johnny Nelson, who was also on the show, to express his desire to get the boxers together on the British boxing spectacle. And Saunders continued: “Johnny. when I say this, yeah, and I swear on my kids’ life, for some reason, I hate him.”

The super middleweight’s latest attack on Eubank may result in a rematch between the pair at some point in the future. Saunders has been out of action since losing to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in a super-middleweight unification in May 2021, that reportedly forced the Englishman into retirement.

However, he was spotted sparring last summer and was rumoured to be eyeing a return to the ring in December which never materialised. And Eubank Jr could do with a victory to save his career after he crashed to a defeat at the hands of Liam Smith in January, causing another one of his rivals, Conor Benn, to poke fun at him.

But although Eubank Jr rubs the likes of Saunders and Benn wrong, there’s a method to his madness. The showboater explained that he loves showing character because the sport lacks personality.
