Angry people of Wolverhampton hit back at being called ‘one of the worst places to live’

The people of Wolverhampton are absolutely seething at being ranked the 33rd worst place in the UK to live.

Earlier this week, a lot of people around the UK were angered when we reported how Luton had been named the worst place to live in the UK.

A list of the top 50 crappiest places to live had been complied by I Live Here, using audience surveys and voting.

And the town mainly known for hat-making, having an average Championship side and a rather large Vauxhall Motors factory, topped the list, while Wolverhampton found itself inside the top 35.

This has seen locals from the city known for spawning music legends such as Slade, Goldie and Dexys Midnight Runners get very angry.

It doesn’t look that bad, just a bit . . . run down

Speaking to local news outlet Express and Star, 58-year-old local Clifford Miller said: “I like Wolverhampton, always have, always will.

“You can keep your London town, I like the pace of life up here in Wolverhampton.

“London is like a toilet bowl compared to Wolverhampton.

“The thing is with the city, there might not be the opportunities but if you are entrepreneurial you can succeed.”

And Nick Roberts, 38, said the city was “getting better”.

A lot of these people appear to be angry

He added: “I remember when it was the worst place in England to live but they have pulled all the horrible tower blocks down and replaced them with nice places.

“Look how the town centre has been rebuilt, there is nothing rubbish about that, the place will look brilliant when it is finished.”

However, a very different view was expressed on social media.

One bloke tweeted: “Wolverhampton went downhill as soon as it was changed to a City.

“Late 90s and early 2000s there were plenty of decent pubs, clubs etc.

Could be worse, it could be Luton

“Now it looks like a Demilitarized zone – total disgrace what’s happened.”

And another wrote: “I’m proud to be from w-ton born n bred but it is a s**thole.

“There is no night life, half the shops are empty, there’s constant trouble at the bus depot.

“Where’s all the new development like the east side plans and the waterside development by carvers?”
