Champions League last-16 ball compared to Wetherspoons plate as fans pile in

The ball that will be used in the Champions League last-16 matches has been compared to a Wetherspoons plate by fans.

The second round of the Champions League gets underway next week, with the first leg of matches taking place between February 14 and February 22. And to mark the occasion, UEFA have introduced the Adidas 2023 Champions League Final Istanbul ball, that was debuted at the UEFA Youth League this week.

The ball is inspired by Turkish art in a nod to the country’s capital, Istanbul, who host the final of the competition in June. But fans think the ball, which has quintets of blue pentagons in blue with gold and silver Turkish designs inside, looks like the plate used at Wetherspoons, which is covered in the same colour.

One fan quipped on Twitter next to a pic of the ball: “Like a plate at spoons.” Another fan concurred and wrote: “It actually is aswell.”

Then a third chimed in: “Haha yes.” A fourth fan felt the same and declared: “Spitting image.” The ball will be used in a slew of mouth-watering clashes in the ensuing round of the European competition.

City fans will be savouring the clash with Leipzig as it may be the last time the club features in the competition for awhile if they’re found guilty of the financial misconduct charges aimed at them.
