Kate Middleton proves she IS a hugger despite Meghan Markle comments

Princess of Wales IS a ‘hugger’! Kate goes on a spree of cuddles after Meghan Markle claimed the ‘formal’ royal found her embrace at their first meeting ‘jarring’

The Princess of Wales showed that she is indeed a ‘hugger’ when she went on a cuddling spree this week, embracing her old school teacher and Captain Preet Chandi at official engagements.

Kate, 41, thre her arms around her former history teacher Jim Embury when she spotted him in the crowds during a visit to the National Maritime Museum in Cornwall yesterday.

The mother-of-three also warmly embraced Captain Preet Chandi on Wednesday after she returned from her solo Polar expedition.

The displays of affection come after Meghan Markle claimed ‘formal’ Kate found hugging during their first meeting ‘jarring’ in the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan.

The Duchess of Sussex, 41, said she did not know the ‘formality’ of the royal family carries through behind closed doors and she did not realise was ‘jarring for some Brits’.

Meghan revealed she was ‘barefoot’ and wearing ripped jeans when she first met Prince William and Kate.

She admitted she was ‘surprised’ there is a ‘forward facing way of being’ and described her self as a ‘hugger.’

She said: ‘Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot. Like I was a hugger, I have always been a hugger I didn’t realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.’

‘I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward facing way of being and then you close the door and think “OK we can relax now”. But that formality carries over on both sides and that was surprising to me.’

However Kate has been pictured hugging many members of the public throughout the years.

The princess warmly embraced a young boy named Josh in Cambridge during a walk about in 2020.

She hugged the boy, who has sensory autism, and told him she had received a wedding and baby cards he had made for her.

In 2018, the royal was also pictured hugging a participant from the Coach Core Essex apprenticeship scheme during a visit at Basildon Sporting Village in Basildon.

Kate and William received a rapturous welcome from royal fans who had gathered outside the Sporting Village hoping to meet them, and one little girl couldn’t resist throwing her arms around Kate and giving her a hug as they chatted.

It comes after Kate greeted her old history teacher with a hug as they were reunited for the first time since she left primary school yesterday.

She visited the harbour town of Falmouth on Thursday with Prince William to learn about the area’s maritime heritage at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall.

Before heading into the museum, the royal was approached by Jim Embury – who was her history teacher at St Andrews prep school in Berkshire.

Kate recognised her former teacher instantly, threw her arms around him and said: ‘Oh my goodness! My gosh, that’s taken me right back!’

She then went on to say how she can visualise exactly what her teacher’s classroom used to look like.

When finding out that Mr Embury had relocated to Cornwall, Kate enthusiastically said: ‘No way!’

According to Cornwall Live, she then gushed: ‘The things you taught me, I now teach to my children.’

The pair happily reminisced together in front of crowds of royal fans as Prince William continued to speak with spectators.

Following the meeting, Jim told the local paper: ‘She was a fantastic student and it was a great class.’

On Wednesday Kate also visited a college in Derby and greeted Captain Preet Chandi MBE with a big hug after she returned from her solo expedition across Antarctica.

The royal was patron of Capt Chandi’s expedition, where she broke the world record for the furthest unsupported solo polar ski expedition in history after covering 922 miles in 70 days and 16 hours.

The visit to Landau Forte College in Capt Chandi’s hometown kicks off the Army officer’s UK-wide tour of schools, during which she will share her story with the next generation.

During today’s outing, Capt Chandi, dubbed ‘Polar Preet’, made a speech to students about her expedition and was joined by Kate in presenting an award to Simrat Soggi, one of the winners of the officer’s national school logo competition.

The princess joined students as they took part in some activities which bring to life the expedition and how Capt Chandi prepared for it, including some examples of how she trained and the types of food she consumed.

While at the school, Kate attempted to pull two tyres attached to a harness, which weighed 44lb (20kg) each, and which Capt Chandi pulled along Derby’s roads during her three-year training period to simulate the weight of her sledge.

Kate admitted: ‘I need to do some training,’ when trying to pull the tyres.
