Pep Guardiola insists ‘I’m not moving’ and commits future to ‘innocent’ Man City

Pep Guardiola has eased the fears of Manchester City supporters by saying he is going nowhere – adding that he is sure that the club will be found innocent of allegedly breaching financial regulations.

With the Premier League charging City with more than 100 financial breaches following a four-year investigation and accusing the club of not co-operating, City could face punishment if found guilty.

That led to talk regarding Guardiola’s position at the Etihad, but he came out firing in a Friday press conference while defending the club and reaffirming his position.

He said: “The club they speak with all of us, but I didn’t speak [about it to the players]. We did training as normal to try to beat Aston Villa.

“All the big moments we have had still belong to us – for our fans, our people. No-one can pull that away, it is impossible.

“After the courts can dictate what happened. At the end it is nice. I am fully convinced we will be innocent.

Of those titles, three came during the period of charges between 2009 and 2018, with potential punishments including being stripped of honours.

In a public statement, City announced they were surprised by the issuing of the alleged breaches, welcoming the review of this matter by an independent commission.

It read: “The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”
