Wife of man who disappeared ‘just like Nicola’ says he’s still alive somewhere

The wife of a man who went missing on a walk like Nicola Bulley is convinced she will still find him more than 10 months on from his disappearance.

Lucy Creaney – the partner of missing bushcraft expert Finn – reasons that “people don’t just vanish off the face of the earth”.

But she also compares the torment she and her five-year-old daughter continue to go through as akin to that mum-of-two Nicola’s family are now enduring after she was last seen walking her dog a fortnight ago by the River Wyre in Lancashire.

Finn, from near Tain in the Scottish Highlands, disappeared after being dropped off at a caravan park, where he set off on a solo hike, with Lucy telling the Daily Telegraph: “March 25th marks the first anniversary of my husband Finn Creaney’s disappearance, and I have every faith we will bring him home.

“But, as the family of Nicola Bulley will know, the uncertainty is torture.

Finn’s last official sighting was when he was dropped off at a caravan park by a family member

“You don’t know how it will end, but you have to believe you will find the person you’ve lost. People don’t just vanish off the face of the earth.”

Lucy regularly has to comfort the couple’s daughter when she cries for Finn, telling her: “Daddy has gone on one of his adventures. I don’t know what’s happened, but I’m doing everything I can to get the answers. I love you, I love Daddy and I miss him.”

On his hike, Finn had planned to walk around Loch Naver.

He was dropped off at the caravan park at 2.15pm, which represents his final confirmed sighting.

His phone had earlier cut off at 1.47pm, having possibly been switched off or run out of battery.

He did leave Lucy a voicemail, though, at 12.52pm, saying: “I love you lots and I’m really proud of you.”

Finn had been due home at midday on Sunday and Lucy reported him as missing to the police when he hadn’t shown up by the following day.

Weeks of searches by the police, mountain rescue and coastguard teams could not find him, but Lucy still sends a message to Finn every day in the hope he might see it.

“I believe Finn is still alive, because there’s nothing to suggest he is not, especially as so much of the ground has been covered by search and rescue, friends, family, police divers and numerous others who have helped on foot, by air and in water,” she said.

Lucy also insists that her husband had no reason to disappear by choice.

“We have been together for nine years, got married in 2021, and were very much looking forward to a bright future together,” she explained. “A mental health crisis this was not. Anyone who suggests that, doesn’t know Finn like I do.”

A Facebook page has been set up to to raise awareness of Finn’s case and anyone who thinks they may have seen him, or might have information on his whereabouts, should call 101, quoting reference 0912 of 28 March.
