NFL’s richest ever cheerleader is worth four times more than boxing legend Mike Tyson

She became a famous TV actress, starred in a Bond film, and was once crowned the world’s sexiest woman – but few realise that the world famous Teri Hatcher started out as a cheerleader.

It’s a profession the NFL arguably could not do without, but one that places huge demands on the young females involved. The rewards for such dedication and commitment can be scant, but not for Hatcher.

She worked as a cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers back in 1984, coincidentally their best ever season. Inspired by quarterback Joe Montana, the 49ers finished with a record of 15 wins and one defeat en route to claiming their second Super Bowl win over the Miami Dolphins – and Hatcher shook the pom-poms beforehand.

Montana’s exploits have ensured he’s gone down folklore, but for very different reasons, so have Hatcher’s. While very few pre-match performers go on to taste fame and fortune, the now 58-year-old became a Hollywood star and racked up a huge fortune in the process.

Just a year before working for the 49ers, Hatcher had begun her role as Louis Lane in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, a series which became a huge hit on both British and American television. Then in 1997 came her break in Hollywood, playing Paris Carver in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never dies.

Numerous other television and film appearances followed, before her arguably her most famous acting stint. She played Susan Mayer in the popular Desperate Housewives series, for which she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.

Amid numerous other appearances in the top-10, Hatcher was voted the world’s sexiest women in men’s magazine FHM in 1997. According to Celebrity Net Worth, her career has yielded the star a net worth of £41.5 million.

For context, that’s more than four times the wealth of Mike Tyson, despite the former heavyweight champion continuing to reel in huge endorsements. It also comfortably gives Hatcher the title of the world’s richest cheerleader, past or present.

Her association with the 49ers remains strong, and she told TMZ back in 2015 that she received a Super Bowl ring from the team after their 1995 Super Bowl success. Just as well, as thus far, that has proved the last of San Francisco’s five NFL Championship titles.
