West Ham star Lucas Paqueta looks distraught after he’s forced off inside 15 minutes

West Ham star Lucas Paqueta appeared distraught after being forced off against Chelsea.

The Brazilian midfielder lasted just 13 minutes in Saturday afternoon’s London derby clash at the London Stadium before having to be substituted off.

Paqueta went down holding his shoulder after a challenge by new Chelsea signing Noni Madueke. He received treatment for several minutes before trying to continue, but signalled that he needed to come off just moments later.

And the 25-year-old was visibly gutted while being replaced by Tomas Soucek. It came just minutes before Chelsea took the lead with a Joao Felix goal.

The injury was another blow to Paqueta, who has had a mixed debut season in England since his £51million move from Lyon. And the injury happens to be his second shoulder issue of the season.

He was forced off against Southampton back in October with a problem that manager David Moyes described as “serious”. Paqueta missed three league games as a result.

It is the Brazilian’s second shoulder injury of the season

The midfield maestro had just started to hit form before the game against Chelsea, having impressed against Newcastle last week and scored the equalising goal to secure a 1-1 draw.

But while Moyes will be hoping the player can quickly return to fitness, his side were still able to clinch a 1-1 draw against the Blues. Emerson Palmieri’s back-post finish 28 minutes went against the tide of the match and ensured the Irons were still in the fight.

The Hammers went on to have a goal chalked off late in the second for off-side. Yet they were lucky to not concede a penalty after Soucek’s hand-ball escaped the punishment of the referee and VAR.
