Conor McGregor posts fitness update after admitting ‘trauma’ from car smash
Conor McGregor has admitted to suffering “trauma” following a crash after confirming he will return to the UFC this year to take on Michael Chandler.
‘The Notorious’ was out cycling in his homeland last month when a car driver inadvertently hit him from behind, sending him sprawling. McGregor later posted disturbing video footage of the incident, with the 34-year-old clearly shaken up in the aftermath.
But despite since announcing he will take on American fighter Chandler, with the date and venue to be decided, McGregor has revealed he’s still struggling from the collision. And early on Sunday morning, he posted a picture to his 46 million followers of him receiving cupping therapy on his right shoulder.

“Got a bang of a car full speed,” he wrote. “Feel good tho but defo some trauma. Appreciate the help from my long time masseuse and friend, doctor pain @vasile_bria_dr_pain.”
The Dubliner then changed tact midway through the post, paying tribute to those affected by the earthquake situation in Turkey: “God bless all of those in Turkey and Syria currently!” he added. “Mother Nature please go easy on our bodies. God please, our souls.”

The post however, received mixed responses, despite many praising his attempt to raise awareness of events elsewhere: “Thank you champion for your supports and best wishes,” wrote @umutuzunoglu, alongside a Turkish flag emoji. “Wow respect for raising awareness about Turkey and Syria,” added @zayyan.02.
The most liked response though, mocked McGregor’s stoppage defeat to Dustin Poirier in July 2021, where the former two-weight champion was stretchered out after suffering a broken leg: “Don’t worry Conor it was a doctor stoppage, car has nothing to be proud of.”

After months of speculation, the UFC icon finally ended speculation over his next opponent this month by announcing he and Chandler would fight as a conclusion to season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter. Both will serve as coaches on the series.
However, the bout is unlikely to happen before the summer, as McGregor is not currently in the promotion’s drug-testing pool. According to USADA, whilst he can coach – he needs to resign and produce two negative tests before being cleared to enter the octagon again.
